A key component of the system is the Materials Recovery Centre. This is where a developer provides a block of land where all the waste is stored, prior to off-site processing. Typically the size of the land can vary from 100m2-1,000m2 depending on the size of the development.
Building companies/developers are also using the concept of mini MRCs where there are only 30-40 homes in a multi-unit development being constructed.
The MRC provides the ability to store “good waste” so that it can be reused in the building of subsequent houses. Some builders have used this material for the construction of a complete home, that can be provided to charities or “giving back” to the community.
